Shifting The Debate: A Historic Step Toward Bi-Partisan Climate Action

Three Republican House Members recently introduced the Republican Climate Resolution, marking a historic step toward bi-partisan climate action in the United States. Although political polarization has typically hindered productive discussion toward solutions, these Republicans are shifting the debate by openly recognizing the threat of climate change.

In response to this promising resolution, 26 members of the Put a Price On It movement, a campaign calling for carbon pricing, published a letter of support to all the Republican sponsors. We want these sponsors to know that millennials across the country applaud their efforts to protect future generations.

Dear Congress members Curbello, Costello, and Stefanik:

The Put A Price On It campaign applauds your support of the Republican Climate Resolution and would like to thank you for speaking out on the need to confront climate change.

The Put A Price On It campaign is a growing national movement of millennials who recognize that climate change presents one of the biggest threats to our generation. Climate change threatens everyone in our country, but disproportionately burdens vulnerable populations and younger generations. That is why millennials are mobilizing to support the solution of carbon pricing, a collective policy solution that captures the true cost of carbon pollution from fossil fuels and levels the playing field for clean energy.

Unfortunately, political divisiveness and misunderstanding surrounding the issue of climate change has hindered progress toward meaningful solutions. However, your commitment to conservative environmental stewardship today marks a historic step toward a more prosperous and sustainable future. We thank you for recognizing that climate action does not threaten economic innovation and ingenuity, but rather, it is compulsory for protecting and fostering those fundamental American values. Furthermore, we believe that free market principles will be essential for creating broadly supported private and public solutions like putting a price on carbon.

Your strong leadership today demonstrates that environmental stewardship is not a responsibility for one party or for one generation. We stand with you as you foster a more constructive dialogue and work toward viable and practical solutions for all Americans.

Thank you for your leadership,
