Policy

The urgency and severity of the climate crisis requires immediate and pragmatic action to sharply reduce greenhouse gas pollution. Our Climate supports policies that will accomplish this goal and ensure a just and equitable transition away from fossil fuels. Specifically, we are focused on the following policy priorities:

Put a price on pollution. Accounting for the true costs of pollution creates an economic incentive to shift to clean sources of energy, while generating revenue to support frontline communities, benefit low and middle income households, and fund the green infrastructure we need to ensure a just transition away from fossil fuels.

Mandate a swift and economy-wide transition to 100% clean energy. Setting ambitious and enforceable commitments direct economies toward that outcome and provide communities with a tool to hold states accountable. Targets should be determined by what the best available science indicates is required globally to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

These two policy priorities often go hand-in-hand, as a price on pollution both drives emission reduction and provides necessary funding for the costs of reducing emissions. Furthermore, we recognize that each state has a distinct political landscape, and we must be flexible without wavering from our commitment to science-based and equitable policy.
