Before we say goodbye to 2018, I hope you will consider making a donation to Our Climate, an organization that has given me the opportunity to act meaningfully to address the climate crisis.
I became an Our Climate Fellow last year when I was a high school student in Washington, D.C. While I recognized the need to act on climate, I did not know how I could use my voice to propel change. Through my role at Our Climate, I worked closely with the incredible DC Climate Coalition—led by Our Climate's unstoppable co-founder, Camila Thorndike—to mobilize student support for strong climate policy in the nation’s capital. And just two weeks ago, we celebrated the passage of the country’s most ambitious renewable energy standard, setting a new bar for other cities and states that are ready to act on climate.
I continued my Our Climate Fellowship when I started college at University of Richmond this fall, and launched the student-led effort to put a price on carbon pollution in Virginia. Already we have organized an advocacy training event on campus, collected petitions for carbon pricing on election day, and published an Op-Ed in the Richmond paper. In January we’re holding a Youth Lobby Day, where we will meet with lawmakers and demand that they support policies to protect our future. I have found that many of my friends want to take action on climate—but don’t know where to start. Inviting them to take concrete action and engaging them in the world of climate policy, a world which desperately needs young leaders to take a stand, Our Climate has been able to mobilize students in Virginia and nationally.
In 2019, Our Climate has an opportunity to pass a wave of climate policies in states across the country: from Oregon to Colorado to Massachusetts. But it will take targeted and creative organizing to win, and that’s where your support comes in. Your donation will enable student leaders like me to organize our communities, meet with lawmakers, share our stories with the media, hold creative events, and so much more—all to put a price on carbon pollution and ensure a swift transition to clean energy.
Would you be willing to make a special year-end donation of $50, $100 or whatever you can afford to help us effectively fight climate change?
Your donation will make a real, lasting impact for young leaders like me, and also for the lives of future generations.
Thank you so much for your support; it truly makes our work possible.
